In Australia AL-KO has a long and proud history spanning back to 1946, when Hornby Engineering was founded and started to produce axles in South Melbourne. In 1974 Hornby Engineering was acquired by Girlock and with the acquisition of two other companies in Sydney and Brisbane it became Australia’s largest company in its field.
In 1986 the German AL-KO Kober Group acquired the company which became known as AL-KO International, signalling the company’s involvement in Australia and New Zealand.
AL-KO’s strong growth in Australia over the last two and a half decade’s has been driven by strategic product range expansion and innovation. After 25 years in Australia AL-KO now has an Australian head office and main manufacturing facility located in Melbourne, with further factories and offices in Sydney and Brisbane as well as Auckland NZ
